Tell him:

your winterizing promotion ended (the date when the temps dropped below a safe outdoor storage temperatures)

your current seasonal maintenance promotion is for repairs due to damage from lack of winterizing. - all repairs are parts and labor - COD.

Leave it well alone.
If you really need the business then the terms and conditions must be tighter than a drum !!!
Jason you sound like you have good business sense.

I have no clue to how long you have been in business or how things are going.

I ran an auto repair business for many years and it basically comes down to this:
If you are just starting out and are poor and starving then you will do "anything" to survive. But.....if you are now sucessfull in business tell this guy to GFH.

Jason, just read your proposed reply and I like it. This fuy is a loser.

My best friend is a commercial roofer. He runs into this kind of customer fairly regularly. The ones h=who decide the repair estimate is too high then a few months later calls up screaming for help when the roof leaks. His response? Get lost! (or words to that effect) Who would want you for a customer anyway?

he's not one of my better customers. In the dozen times i've done work for this guy he had the cash/check for parts like half the time, and he is more like 6 weeks in getting me the labor check. Once he was late mailing me a check, and when I got it, it wasn't signed. I had to mail it back to him to get it signed then re-mailed to me. 2 more weeks on that deal.

Is he worth it? Sounds to me like this thread could be resurrected 6 weeks from now.

Ditto. Some jobs are simply not worth the effort, this appears to be a perfect example.

+3

Jason, that letter you crafted was 10x more effort than I would have exerted!

My response would have been: "Sorry, winterization is done in October. This is the end of January, your stuff is damaged, and I am not touching it, since I will almost certainly get blamed for its failures in the spring. I am sorry I can not help you at this time. I will be happy to write you an estimate next fall, for whatever equipment you still have operational at that time. Thanks, have a nice day... "

what's left to winterize? it's 10* out. damage is done. i think their looking to use ya as a scapegoat come spring. therefor i'd not do it, regular customer or not. business practices have changed since this major recession has happened, and not for the better. it's a biz eat biz world now and i feel if ya do it, your reaching for the bait.

I'm with this^^^^

Tell him:

your winterizing promotion ended (the date when the temps dropped below a safe outdoor storage temperatures)
