Why we ask for fuel sample

Motors don't run well on this. This is classic "bad fuel"

notice distinct layering.

when we ask you to take a fuel sample into a clear jar this us what you don't want it to look like.

Mods please move if necessary - just thought it was a good post for this time of year as folks start their stuff up.

Interesting to find out what the “distinct layers” are floating on the top.

Water and ethanol (aka phase separation) would have settled to the bottom and be clear

Well, in real life there is a 1/4" layer of yellow at the top. Then a 1/32" layer of cloudy grey. Then the bottom portion of dark old fuel. I believe the cloudy layer are "extemeophiles", little micro organisms that live in extreme environments. The yellow I believe to be detergent additives or fuel stabilizers that separated out.
