You PWC haters are the same old farts that scream if a kid in your neighborhood steps on your precious lawn. Remember when you laughed at such people?...now you're one of them.

My lawn won't kill me by acting irresponsibly........

Its not the PWC's we hate, they can be a lot of fun, its the idiots that drive them, they more than likely drive their PWC just like they drive a car, like a moron who only cares about himself on the road/water.

I can pretty much gaurantee that I am way younger than you. To say it ONCE again since clearly you dont see the point.........A PWC user who is being considerate AND following the rules isnt a problem...............the problem is that 75% of the people out there don't do that.

Re: Why We Hate PWCs...

I have nothing against PWC at all If fact I may buy a quite 4 stroke model.

What i do not like is PWC operators like Steve who do not know the rules or dont follow the rules. When they cause as accident then they want to blame the other boater for their stupid 180 degree sharp into the passing boat.

They cause over 50 percent of the accidents and 70 percent of the deaths. They push up the cost of insurance.
They come into a quite cove where people are fishing, swimming, eating lunch, sunning.
They make big wakes that slam boats tied to shore, into rocks and sand or if rafting other boats.
They turn the quite cove into a place where no one enjoys with big waves and lot of noise.
They think it their right to reck the great day many boaters were having before they arrived.
They do not know that many lakes the speed limit is 5 MPH within 200 feet of shore or any swimmer and they do not care.
They must be dumb also to make statements like " I never pissed off another boater".
They only care about their fun and could care less about everyone else.

Their are many PWC riders that do follow the rules and do not interfeer with others fun but when we think about PWC we usually think about the ones that only care about their own fun.

In my area some do all they can to increase the noise their PWC makes.

At least their batteries and alternators will not support 1200 watt stereos.

Luckly out here in California Many new laws have been passed to cite and fine PWC Riders who do not respect others. Activities like jumpping another boats wake or running around another boat now have big fines and possible Jail time for repeters.

Pattrol boat are happy to enforce these rules as they are the ones that have to pull out the dead bodies.

And why not do spins and stunts in the middle.......cuz thats where traffic is... who wants to get smacked by a boat while doing tricks. not me, ive already been smacked by a boat. not fun...
sorry to say, not to be rude, but thats not your cove. if thats the calm area and the safer area, why not, would u rather see a guy doing stunts out where its choppy and get ran over? if u dont like waves crashing against your boat, get a lift for it... ure on WATER.! waves happen... do u complain when there is a huge storm? do u say. that damn storm, why couldnt u go 30 miles north and rain on that lake?

And this is why I don't care for PWC and many, not all, of the people that operate them. No respect on the water and rediculous logic...............Sorry if that offends you...

Ayuh,........... I Totally Agree...........

Except,... That's Not rediculous logic,......

You See,... The River is about 200' Wide,+ the "No Wake" zone is 100' from Shore,........
So,... 100' from My side,+ 100' from the Other side,....
Makes the Whole River a No Wake Zone..........

"my cove".....typical fisherman/old-man-boater.

Here's the deal, go fishing at sunrise when the FUN people are still asleep from partying the night before! Or, find a stream or tiny lake where power boats are not allowed. Leave the real water to us PWC guys!!!!!

Now, when I'M in my BOAT, keep those no-job, losers on the PWC away from me!!!!!!!!!

Do you have a multi-personality disorder?

Re: Why We Hate PWCs...

I don't have a problem with PWC riders in general. They are usually not awake when I am out, and I have found that most pwc users on my lake are middle aged or older. There are young ones too of course, and they do stupid things, but they tend to do it away from other boats.

Now, the wakeboard boats, those are the scourge of my lake. They are usually manned by teens or twenty-somethings and they could care less who they **** off. It doesn't matter that the lake is 45,000 square acres and there is countless places to go. You can be in your fishing boat, already there, fishing, and they will cruise within 50 feet of you with their crappy music blaring. A lot of it is because the driver is spending so much time looking at whoever is wakeboarding that they don't bother to plan their route of travel.

The waterskiers are much more involved in their surroundings. They stay well away. There again though, its a difference of class. Wakeboarders are generally classless kids who don't know squat about anything beyond holding their hands out for more money or the boat keys.

Usually I am off of the lake by noon, which is when the mentally challenged "pleasure boaters" come out. They come in a close second place to the wakeboard boat users. These are the people who bring their boats from some other region, drop in on our lake, rip around, and then leave. They don't care because they don't live here. They cruise their 30 foot day cruisers within 50 feet of my anchored and well flagged boat while the wife and I are in the water swimming. We frantically swim away from our own boat that has been pushed towards us by the three foot swell that has caused the anchor to come loose from the bottom. We anchor usually about 30 feet from a shoreline that is away from normal trafficways, but these self-centered morons gravitate to our area for no real reason. Again, its a 45,000 square acre lake, stay the hell away from me.

PWCs are the smallest issue on my lake...

Re: Why We Hate PWCs...

Back in, Oh probably march, dad and I were out in the 12 footer on the lake. We didn't have a TM at the time, and a 12 footer will get blown around a good bit. We were fishing a rock wall on the shoreline, and a jet flea comes racing around the bend, goes up stream, turns around and races back toward us. When it gets near us it veers toward us, and about 20 feet away, it turns sharp the other way. Threw us a good bit of wake, and we had to push off the wall with paddles to keep from hitting it. This is the kind of behavior that pisses me off.

But, back in April, I was fishing alone, in a shallow cove that snakes back a long way. Two jet skis (not jet fleas in this case) come back through there at probably 1/3 throttle. As soon as they round the bend, they see me fishing there, and cut to idle speed. They then idle past and work their way upstream. When they get stuck a couple hundred yards upstream, I even offered to give them a tow (not that I could pull a 12 foot heavy ski off a mud bar with my little 4 horse outboard) but they managed to push one off the bar and used it to tow the other one off. They thanked me for offering a tow, and apologized for disturbing my cove and fishing. This is the kind of jet ski behavior I can easily condone. There is nothing wrong with the skis, or some operators, but some, are just inconsiderate, and deserve more than just a ticket.

I bought my first jetflea last week and at 42 I operate it the same way I do my 19' boat...with both courtesy and caution when around any other vessel on the water.

100% agreement here...man, ya said it all. PWC got knocked down to 3 place, now its tubers and wake junks. Down here in South Puget Sound, there is anywhere from small channels, islands, to a mile or two across. It don't take long to get the water as choppy as when they have the major tugboat races.
Not much ya can do...(although I like the Monday to Friday when they are at work dreaming of the weekend, and I'm sucking up the sun and retired...revenge!)
PS. Sad about the Sandpoint area...last visit there was on a cross counrty ride on the Harley. Think 91. The city park/beach/marina there just after the mile long bridge on a Saturday morning was as peaceful and quiet as I ever saw. Still want to live in that area someday. Might have to be up the Priest River though. Have a friend moving to 9 Mile Falls soon (Spokane), so a visit is in order in a year or two again. Trouble is California money is coming in up there, and with, the idiots. And I got nothing against CA, as probably have 20 relatives down there...nice to visit, then get the hell out..

Re: Why We Hate PWCs...

this is a prime example why Florida, now requires anyone under 22 Y/O to take the safe boating course, and pwc course inorder to operate a pwc, under 16 cannot operate a pwc in Florida. and cannot rent on under 18 y/o.

Actually the age minimum age to operate is 14.
And a 14 yo can operate a rental as long as the renter is 18+.

Re: Why We Hate PWCs...

Timeless issue, regardless of technology. I'm sure it wasn't long after the first guy chiselled a wheel outta rock, some other idiot was running him over with it.

I had two jet skiers playing thread the needle at speed ten years ago or so. Problem was I didn't like being the needle, watching them zig zag back and forth a dozen feet off my bow and stern by turns.

My poor little 3 litre Mercruiser wasn't up to either chasing down or running away and damned if I was going to change my track. After some pondering I found that fishing out my flare pistol and keeping it casually but obviously in hand draped over my windshield as I cruised along all of a sudden bought me a couple hundred yards of "no fly zone" in all directions.

Not particularly clever nor a long term solution -- but it was hard to suppress the grin at the time.

Re: Why We Hate PWCs...

My wife and I used to own jet skis. Mine was fast and LOUD hers was nice and quiet. I didnt really care about noise or anything like that. There were plenty of boats that were a lot louder than my jet ski not by much but a little. . I can tell you that I stayed away from boaters. No real reason except the boaters I met were all A holes. they really thought they owned the lake or river or cove or waterway. I had one one time tell me that I need co come in slow so I dotn rock his boat. The guy thought he was Mr Cool. he could of asked nicely but instead he talked to me from his beach chair with his hat over his face and sort of pointed at me. This was a private campground that we all pay to be at. i jsut sort of ignored him. Of course his buddy who pulled up well that was ok to make waves. Either way the guy was a a hole so I jsut left it at that. Well he didnt. The last time I left I rocked his boat. The guy shoots out of his chair and starts yelling at my wife who was making some sandwiches. I can tell you I dont remember how I got back on land. i think I swam back in but I was in his face about 3 seconds later. I poked him in the chest all the way back to his lawn chair. I made a conscious effort to go as slow as i could. Either way eversince that day I basically did not like boaters. There were some cool ones but most were jerks.
I learned the rules of the water and stayed away from boaters period.
Owning a boat I also see the other side. Jsut last weekend I went to Ocenaside to go fishing. As we were coming in a guy on a jet ski decided to follow my wake. he was barely 20-25 feet away from my stern. I slowed down and finally stopped he came close to hitting me. I told him he is supposed to be abotu 100 yards away from me. he said its only 50. I said even if it is 50 youre only abotu 25 feet away. later as we were going through the no wake/ 5mph zone he pulled up and he apologised. he really thought he was 50 yeard away. i told him no bro you were 20-25 feet away.
He apologised and went on his way.
I see both sides since I was on both sides. jet skis are fun fast and maneuverable. The proplem doesnt only lie with the operator. it also lies with the manufacturer and dealer. They advertise these things as fun machines. When i got my jet ski it was a signature on the papers and we will load it on the trailer. that was it. Oh and yeah here watch this safety tape.
Thank god I had jet skis before btu I imagine someone who never owned them going out there. You get so caught up in the sheer excitement of being out there you forget there are others around you. you dont watch where youre going and then POW smacked by a jet ski or a boat

Re: Why We Hate PWCs...

Who resurected THIS thread? Oh well, it's back.

I own a boat and a 3-person PWC; operate both with care and safety. Never take the PWC out when the lake gets too busy, as I always have kids on it with me.

Anyways, some PWCers are stupid, no doubt. Most aren't, just like anything else I guess. But, the "I own the lake" fisherman are the most difficult water hog to deal with of all! Yeah, YOU in your cove thinking no one has a right to go near you. Ever think the lake has 3 or 4 coves and 100's of boaters out there? You think you get one to yourself? NOT!!!

Then there's the "I'm fishing from out here to shore" guy who goes out a few 100 feet, fishes towards shore the gets all upset if someone goes between him and the shore! DUH, again, 100s of boats - you can't hog an acre or so for yourself!

Not to beoutdone is the channel fishermen who hog the ONLY channel between sections or lakes. Don't get near them....never mind there is no other way through! Screw you, I'm coming by at whatever the speed limit is for that section. Find somewhere else to fish and stop hogging the entire lake!

Get up early, go on weekdays, whatever, just don't expect to be left all alone on a busy lake - can't happen. You can fish in a stream all by yourself, no PWCs or boats. Find a pond, Whatever. Just don't figure YOU have some special right to hog huge sections of public lakes.
