ok long story, so bear with me, ill try to make it as short and painless as possible.

so i bought a 115 evinrude, no controls so im jumping the solenoid over to crank it, i took the battery that cranks my 105 chrysler with no problem, and it wouldnt spin the motor over

pulled the plugs, motor spins over fast, put even 2 plugs in, wont spin fast enough.

so i took the starter out, took it apart, cleaned it real good, put it back on, worked a little better, but still not fast enough. i put the battery charger on the battery, not quite enough, i hook it to my dodge truck, little better but still not quite enough.

so i got curious, i grabbed the battery in question, walked over to my fishing boat, 70 johnson, that i know for a fact runs perfectly fine, put the battery on it, hit the key, barely spins.

so i figured i have a shot battery, put it back on my chrysler 105, spins it over fast and cranks it right up.

i pull the battery out of my dodge truck, hook it to the 115 evinrude, spins it over faster than the other options but still not quite.

now heres my thing, how is it, this marine battery will spin over a 105 chrysler, wont spin a 70 johnny, or a 115 rude.

AND

this truck battery will crank a dodge 318 V8, but wont spin a 115 V4????

now heres whats strange, if i put the jumper cable directly to the starter post, bendix wont engage, if i touch it to the solenoid, it pops up, engages, and trys to spin the motor

the starter isnt slipping on the bendix shaft, everything has good connections, its grounded good, the choke engages when i touch the jumper to the post, all 4 coils fire a hot blue spark with the plugs out.

im stumped, anybody got any ideas??

quit using jumper cables. put a set of cables on the motor properly, and use a remote starter switch the jump the solenoid. you are not getting good connections. have you removed the plugs, and turned the motor by hand to see if you have any hard spots.

Good advice, also inspect and clean the ground bolt on the engine block.
Can get alot of corrosion in the threads and not allow a good ground.

Need 300 RPM to get good cranking voltage to your amp or power pack.

done everything listed here, all the grounds are good, all the connections are good and clean, starter was pulled apart and cleaned well, i can get it to spin the motor over but not near fast enough to get it to fire up, theres no hard spots with the plugs out, and ive been hooking the motor directly to a battery, not just to jumper cables

im starting to think its the starter. ive had this problem with cars and trucks before, act like the battery is dead and the starter is shot.

the reason i say that, is no matter how hot of a battery i put on there, it still wont spin any faster, and it the battery cables get HOT when im trying to crank it.

tried 3 different batteries i know are good, and none of them or any combination of the two will crank it.

anything i can do to the starter other than replace it?

that is the an alternator/starter shop, and have them test it. they can rebuild if repairable.

The brushes could be worn to nubs not allowing good contact.
