:( Ok guys, first i want to thank all of you for your feedback and input on helping me trouble shoot my problems. I finally fixed my problem with why my motor would not turnover. It was a $30 solenoid that needed replaced. Now here is my dilema. I have a '78 Mercury 1150/115hp 6cyl motor. I get it to turnover and all but i jst can't get it to fire. I pump my fuel ball until the fuel is running out of the carbs but it just will not fire. It grumbles noce or twice but will not fire. It sounded like it fired like i said once or twice but as soon as it does the starter disengages it sounds like and the boat stops turning over. I have to then have to release the key and start cranking again. I have drained the battery once doing this so I had to stop to charge the battery. Any ideas on what I can do now?

The Stacked 6's require a LOT of fuel to start, Lean on the Choke until it fires, then let go, 'bump' the choke again as RPM drops to keep it alive until it warms up a bit.

You shouldn't have fuel running out of the carbs at all. That's not necessarily why it won't start but not a good thing either.

usually that means the needle valve isn't closing all the way or your squeezing the primer bulb waaay too hard.

OK. Well i did squeeze the bulb quite a few times even after it was hard. Also I noticed that when i had the cover off and was turning th eengine over that the bottom carb is where the fuel was coming out. It was also coming out a lil screw on the side when i was turning it over so i know that gas is flowing when it is turning over.

Oh, Oh, I read your first post too fast.

Fuel leaking out of a carb is not a good thing. That cyl is flooding and already has TOO MUCH fuel in it.

Clean all carbs and make sure that the float height is set according to the manual. You may need to get a carb 'kit' and replace the needle or seat to be sure that it seals off when the carb is full.

Then try holding the choke while cranking, just long enough til you get the first fire.
