I bought a used 1969 16' Glaspar with a 1978 55 hp Johnson on it which ran excellent. We left it at camp. Half in water and half on beach. I didn't pull the plug. So OF COURSE we had a lot of rain the 2 weeks we were home. We got to camp and the boat was 1/4 filled with water. So I grabbed a bucket and started to dump water out. About the 50th bucketful I had enough. So I told my wife we was going for a ride. I pulled, push, and dug the boat out. Finally I got it floating. DIDN'T look pretty. LOL Started the motor and the way we went. Had WOT and still went SLOWWW. LOL I had my wife steer (FIRST TIME SHE EVER DROVE A BOAT) and I pulled the plug. All the way across the lake. I told my wife to turn the boat and she did. Then I told he to straighten the boat out and after going in circles twice or so. The corner of the transom was within inch or LESS from the water coming in. I jumped up and grabbed the steering wheel and straighten it out. I ask (OK YELLED) her what the LLEH she was doing? She told me that the steering was stuck. SHE THOUGHT IT HAD POWER STEERING. Like a car. LMAO
Since then we bought a newer boat and I bought a water witch. Which is great. NO MORE BUCKETS. LOL

A great fix for things like this involve a dozen long stem roses. You should make her drive the boat more often so she can get comfortable with it. You may need her to drive at some point, maybe you get hurt, and you'll appreciate the fact that she knows how to start, drive, and dock the boat.

Ah... So your wife almost sunk the boat eh?
That makes me think of this guy who forgot to mix his fuel, told his wife to pour it in the tank and then accused her of ruining the engine.....

My thoughts exactly... :D

A big apology to your wife, with some flowers will probably go a long way toward making sure you can still call her your wife next year. :D

I side with the 2 guys above. I understand you needed help, but that was not really the best time to introduce her to the helm. I said ad some chocolate bonbons to them roses.

LMAO My wife just read all those. We are both laughing. THANKS ALOT GUYS I have to go buy her something now. LOL She never drove a car, snowmobile, tractor until she got with me. She said she didn't want to drive the boat. BUT that's what she said with all the others. LOL She'll be driving the boat this summer. ;) She just doesn't know it yet. :))

LOL, sorry cheif. :D But hey, it's nearly valentines day... you could probably get away with combining the apology gift with the valentines day gift. You could get her tickets to a show on valentines day, but give her the tickets now and say they are because you're sorry you accused her of almost sinking the boat. That'll get you off the hook for now, then when valentines day comes around, you just take her out to that show that you were going to anyway, and that's your valentines day date. Just don't let her read this post, or she'll know what's up and you'll have to get her 3 gifts then.

ROFLMFAO You guys are FUNNY. I AM GLAD I FOUND THIS SITE. I'm going to buy her a Jeep Grand Cherokee. We went and looked at 1 today. She said it could be for her birthday and for "ME ACUSSING HER FOR THE BOAT THING." Just next time I have her drive the boat she'll ONLY be going straight until she gets used to it. LOL

Hmmm.... Married into an Amish family, huh?

I'm like you. I usually over-react to a situation with my wife (we're always gonna rail on those that are closest to us.), then usually end up paying for it in the end... sometimes 3 or 4 times.

Her usual comeback to me? "If you ever want to see me naked again, you'll rephrase your statement."

Ah, yes.... I've got my wife right where she wants me. :D

Nah, lots of women haven't driven. My wife never drove until a year and a half after we got married (and she was 30 when we got hitched). She just always took a taxi, bus, jeepney, or trike wherever she needed to go.

LOL That line is hillarious. I've got to remember that one. :D

of all the crazy womanly things, my family and i went down to florida quite a while ago, and my father new of this old little lake he used to fish on back in the '70s and early '80s, he carries a Ruger 9mm on him all the time and remembered what the lake used to be like so make no mistake he brought it with him, got out on the water, fishin' for nothing big @ the water and tree line (branches hang a long way over the water) and we got under them for the shade and sure as hell a snake came down out of them trees and in the boat and Pops pulled his gun started shootin' and blowin' holes in My Boat, good thing i had a bilge pump and a bucket with me!

I've heard stories like that about Halibut fishermen in Alaska. Shooting the fish trough the head to kill it ... after it was in the boat. Never knew if those stories where true though
