There are at least a half dozen seperate wildfires burning as I write in communities south and west of Arlington, TX.

At 5:00 PM at least a dozen homes and many other structures have been destroyed.

The fires are aided by a severe drought and high winds.

We have many members who live in those areas. Let's focus some energy on quick and effective control of the fires and preservation of the homes of our friends.

5 homes about 15 miles from me have been burnt to the ground. This all happened yesterday and are not in your area but south of you.

Looks like hay is gonna get even more scarce and higher, if you can find it at all.

JB, we have them burning all around the OKC metro area, parts of I35 were shut down earlier today because of the smoke. They showed a live view from a helicopter earlier that you could see them burning everywhere. Fire dept. said there was not a whole lot they could do. Kinda scary!!

When I first moved to the DFW area from west Texas, I was horrified to see cigarette butts flying out car windows. That is a definite no no where I was from, but I still see it regularly here.

One of the fires closed hwy 287 for a bit, wonder if a butt was the cause.

I could use about 50 round bales to get through winter. No wheat or oat grazeing, were already over what we would feed the whole winter. :( :(

Last week round bales of horse hay around here were going for $76. Bet they will be higher tomorrow. :( In a normal year you can get round bales of coastal bermuda (horse favorite next to alfalfa) for $25 to $40. Our 4 will go through 10 round bales before the grass greens up in March.

I drove in to Arlington on Christmas to dine with son, LOML and a couple of grandbuddies. Saw scars of four grass fires that clearly started at the shoulder of I-30. Seems likely that they were cigatette butts.

There's a good reason to raise taxes on cigaretts, folks who throw their butts out of their windows ought to be horse whipped.
my 2cents.

fires in 22 counties in OK, some caused by cigarette butts being thrown out. Now they are expected to ban fireworks today.

Wish I could ship some of this rain down there to you all. It's been raining since Christmas. We have flood warnings in the area.

I warned Ladyfish last week not to brag too much about the weather. Mother Nature has a way of evening the score.

Related to the culture thread possibly? Something like wildfires is the last thing that I would think of this time of year...

I hope those people are ok.

Sean
