Re: Will a 14' aluminum vhull be fast with a 35hp evinrude?

my 15' alum was rated for 35. i had a 20 on there and it was scary.

speedwobbles, shakey hull.... eek. no thank you

My 14' runabout is rated for 45hp. With the 35hp it is a very smooth and actually boring ride at 25mph. A rough, noisy ride in choppy water but not scary at all.
I have the exact same boat a couple years older. There is no rating sticker on it. It is a 1963 with a 60hp on it. I haven't tried it, but the former owners said it was a real screamer and alot of fun.

This is all great information to hear, Im excited to give it a whirl on my boat, I think when I meant speed wise I meant performance and handling like I said my 25 feels sluggish with 3 ppl in the boat so I guess the 35 will feel much better.

If your 35 is running right, is the right shaft length, and you have the right prop on it (probably 10 3/8 X 13), I think you'll be much happier with it on the back of your boat. It should perform better overall. Experiment with the tilt settings to get the very best performance out of it with your normal loading. If it's just you in the boat, you may want a different tilt setting.

Remember, the mix for that engine is 24:1. Don't be tempted to run it at 50:1. Also, expect to use more fuel with it...they're thirsty buggers. They cruise well at about 3/4 throttle, once you have the boat on plane, and use less fuel.

Enjoy, and do report back on how it does.
