I destroyed my power head and bought a 1971 johnson 65 hp motor with a bad lower unit hoping to swap my good lower unit on. -I have a 72 65 hp evinrude. I beleive both motors are hydroelectric shift? Are the lower units interchangeable. In addition, can i just slide the 71 Jonhson motor on the 72 65hp motor bracket? the controls boxes look a lot different too. The motor I just bought has 100hrs on new powerhead and all the parts to complete lower unit rebuild. I don't have the time to rebiult the lower unit or skill and was hoping to swap units to get through the striper blackfish season. <br />Mike Giglio gigman8@earthlink.net

The gearcase will interchange without a problem. The Evinrude had a push button control, while the Johnson had an inner switch controlled by the throttle lever. You will have a lot of interchangeable parts there.

Thank you r.Johnson. Nothing like a new 1971 motor. You have relieved some anxiety I had about the purchase.
