Re: Will a Sierra 18-2100 gimbal bearing fit in a 01 B2?
and has a red dot with the .09 taken off the aft side of the inner race. It is probably the original bearing. Looks like that bearing is for X,XR,X2 drives with bigger U-joints. I wonder if I have the bigger U-joints. Thanks
You are correct, the new bearing was shaved down in 2000 to fit the bigger u-joints that you do not have on your drive/serial number.
The shaved bearing became standard in 2000 for all bravos whether or not you had the bigger u-joints or not.
Since you do not have the bigger u-joints on
your standard bravo drive the 18-2100 will work just fine in your gimbal housing.
Now starting with serial number 0M111208 & Up (2004 +) on the standard and bravo X drives, there was a few slight changes made to the u-joint assembly due to Merc went with a different company that makes the u-joint assembly for them and it
appears to be in the photo just a hair longer, along with they went from greasable to non greasable u joints. The u-joint assemblies are also different colors. Your color should be gray while the 04+ should be black in color. I personally would not chance running the old bigger bearing with the newer standard drives.
So for future reference, if your bravo drive is 0M111208 & Up (2004 +) you will be better off/safer to run the 18-21005 or 18-21006 sierra part number if buying from sierra marine available here on iboats. The host that has helped you confirm correct information.
