350 truck engines are a fairly inexpensive as they are plentiful. I also think you would be dissapointed going from a 350 to 305. The main things are a truck cam, very important to avoid reversion, brass core plugs and all your marine life support. (Marine carb and electrical).

My Mercruiser 260 has a cracked block i think, will a car motor work? And will all my stuff fit on the used 305? looking at this on craigslist.

You've got a chance....

The 1 in that ad, Don't look very promising...
$200. motors don't tend to run very well, very long...

Buying an engine that can't be started is risky at best.
If ANYTHING is wrong, the seller will say, "It wasn't like that when you bought it."
