Will car wax harm my boat?

I have an old ArrowGlass fishing boat. The tan/cream paint on the outside of the hull is pretty oxidized. I was wondering if I can wax it with car wax. Or maybe even take a buffer to it. I am wondering if this will hurt the finish on my boat (not that it can really get any worse ). Thanks

It certainly won't harm your boat. As with car wax, you'll want to really wash the hull down, and if you have access to a fiber-glass buffer and compound use it. After that, it's just like waxing a car and will protect just like a car wax.

Do you have a gelcoat or clearcoat finish. If it is gelcoat they recomend a high grade carnuba sp? wax. I cannot tell you what is best for clearcoat.

Hey I was browseing thru and saw the wax question. a good car wax has karnuba in it and from a bodyman-car painter I'd say the car wax would be fine > I used Turtlewax on my 1973 Carvelle.<br /> Take a kid fishing & it'll be the best trip of your life!<br /><br /> Bubbatruck

Thanks everyone for your responses. I thought it would be ok but wanted to make sure before I ruined anything. I have never buffed a car before and want to try to use a buffer on the boat. Can anyone give me a few tips on what to use with the buffer (just regular wax?) and special tips to do a good job? thanks again.
