My boat is a 1972 glastron v176....The keel is wore and u can see the fiber fabric wore about two foot long and a couple of scratches maybe from rocks...
My boat leaks from the wore fabric....

My question is will marine epoxy seal this up?...:confused:And should I use a couple of coats after it dries?....:confused:I have already used 1 coat and it has hardened...

I have also ordered a keelguard for my boat.....Hoping this will be extra protection.....

Your help is appreciated....Thanks.....:)

Did you just use Epoxy resin? If so, probably not the best method. If it was worn down to the glass you should sand it down, feather it out and then use some fiberglass cloth to build it back up. The resin by it self will NOT give you any structural strength and you will continue to damage your keel. You need to do it right if you want the repair to last and make your boat solid. It is not a hard repair nor a costly one. You should be able to find some cloth or fiberglass tape at the local auto parts store. Sand the area back down to the glass coat with resin, lay your cloth and saturate with resin. After 24 hours give it another sanding with 80 grit, another coat of resin, cloth, resin and let it cure. Sand it down with 80 then 120 and then paint it with some rustoleum spray paint and your good to go. Keep it painted periodically and it should last for a long time.

Good Luck

I fix these issues all the time.

As woodonglass said you'll need to refiberglass theses areas. However, if you are getting leaks then you'll have to grind out that area from the inside and glass there also. Then do the outside. If you do not you increase the chance of it de-laminating. The only thing I do not agree with is using spray paint as a final finish. You can buy a item called "Preval" to spray gel. Make sure you sand the fiberglass beforehand. If you are putting on a keel guard don't worry about sanding and polishing the gel. The only sanding involved will be for the application of the keel guard.
