im getting a small boat and it weighs 70lbs and is 8ft long. i will hunt and fish out of it. mainly hunt though. i plan on getting a good deep cycle battery to run a trolling motor.. would a 28lb thrust do the trick or should i up the thrust?<br /><br />thanks-<br />med

thanx-<br />the reason i asked is because another guy on a duckhunting site suggested nothing below a 55lb troller. i wasnt sure if he was right or off in his thinking. i have no experience with a trolling motor. i figured you guys over here could get it straight for me.<br /><br />med :D

med,<br /><br />The 28 will work. It all depends on how fast you want to go. If you go with a larger thrust model, you don't have to use all the thrust all the time.

Many years ago I had a Dayton SportYak II, Med. It was about the size of your boat.<br /><br />I could troll all day on my truck battery with a 25lb troller at 1/4 speed and still start the truck when I got back. I felt it was more than adequate.<br /><br />Good luck. :)

Be careful shooting out of that small a boat. Will rock pretty bad if shoot to beam. With that small a boat I think motor you are looking at is fine.
