Re: Will keeping the boat uncovered cause damage?

That's a good thought...EGlideRider. That would probably help for the most part, especially the electronics. One of my concerns is the vinyl in contact with the black cover. The color does come back....but for how long will it keep this up. The boat is a 3 year old Chaparral. I don't have alot of expierence with open boats with upholstery throughout. Usually covers just work....not in this case.

If the vinyl goes from brown to white in a few hours or days, it sounds like a chemical reaction. Burnt is burnt and it wont revert to normal.
Or is it mold that wears off or dies and then is rubbed off?

This is what I hate about long term covers that are billed as weather and waterproof and are built to wrap the boat in a coccoon of sorts.
They all leak water into the inside and there is no air circulation to keep it dry and the mold away.
I prefer to just create a canopy over the boat with a ridge pole running lengthwise of the boat. Or at least have the edges of the tarp secured in an out-and-down fashion .

Which will allow natural air flow and allow frequent easy inspections, etc.

You have a good point.....jeeperman....does die off after some hours in the sun....from brown to white..Vinyl wouldn't do that naturally.

And your other comment about covering a wet..or dry.. boat... I have never any luck keeping moisture out of any boat with a cover. Dosen't make sense to me, I'm learning

My cover has vents in the support caps to help the moisture problem. The caps are permanently mounted in the cover, which helps to keep the posts from moving under the cover, and allows the air to flow through.

Thanks for the info....Chris. I will look into this product. The boat came with several covers of different types and styles. I'm going to spend some time on her today and find a solution....after I replace the starter.
