I want to get rid of the waterline stain on my boat but don't want to harm the bottom paint. Can I use Mary Kate ON&OFF hull cleaner?

I have never tried it on bottom paint so I don't know what the acid in it will do.
It's a great product but I would try it on a small spot first.

philtheskipper,

Many bottom paints are designed to "slough off" minute amounts of the paint-that's how they stop growth from sticking to them. Generally, you can tell which type you have by its appearance. If it is flat or dull, it is the "diminishing" type. The only way I would clean this is with a pressure washer or a brush-no chemicals.

If the paint is VERY shiny, you MAY be able to safely use a chemical to clean it. I would try a small spot first as BW17MT mentioned. Also, after you have tried that spot, let it sit for 24 hours to see if there is a reaction.

Thanks for the advice. The stain is on the fiberglass above the bottom paint but I was afraid that the cleaner would run onto the bottom paint and leave streaks or something.
