Will Mercury LU interchange with Mariner LU?

Looks like my 60 HP Mariner lower unit is toast I was wondering if a Merc. LU would work, as I have been looking on craigslist and found a few 1989 Merc. 60 HP LU's. My Mariner serial # is 0B396769, I believe its an 1989. And I need to know how to cross reference to the Mercs. I have also checked the (what year and model my outboard is thread) and no luck. What are my exact specs for my Mariner? Also will a 40 or 50 HP Mariner lower unit work? Thanks again for all the great info on this site!

your mariner can use a merc. l/u. if your mariner is a long shaft(20 in.) your lower unit part # is 1643-9539a 9. a merc. lower unit prt #is 1643-9539a 3.the only diff. is the collor. look for a merc. motor with a ser# between 0B122930 and 0D000749. make shore the replacement is the right shaft lenth. i should have a used or re-con. l/u in stock if you cannot find one. give me a call at 1-302-945-1800 ex#5320 if i can help.
