will my existing multimeter work?

I currently have a UEI Digital Multimeter model DM383B. http://www.ueitest.com/product-dm383b.html One of the great features is the MAX setting that will hold on display the max voltage during the test. My question is does this perform the same as a peak reading Multimeter or a DVA peak reading multimeter? If not can someone please explain the diffrence. Also I found an "adapter" that is supposed to turn any standard multimeter into a peak reading. http://www.maxrules.com/fixtools640.html
Would this matter on my multimeter as it already has the MAX function?

You are going to need the DVA adapter. The one you listed in the second link should be fine. Typically multimeters can't measure the max voltage of a pulse less than 200mS or so.

You can easily build a dva adapter also.Do a search on the mercury forum for DVA adapter. The adapter consists of 1 resistor,1 capacitor and 1 diode.I got the resistor and the diode from radio shack for a couple of bucks and the capacitor came out of a disposable camera flash. The dva adapter takes the pulses from the stator or trigger and basically averages the readings.A peak reading VOM just fluctuates wildly when trying to read the pulsating voltage output without the adapter.Just be careful as the adapter can store a charge for several minutes and if you touch the leads can really zap you.Not a lethal shock but it will get your attention.
