will only go in reverse 50 hp johnson

Im remmoved the lower unit on a 50 hp johnson 1988 ,i replace the seals but now when you turn on engine it starts in reverse and when you increase throtle it goes into idle can someone help me and tell me what could be the cause ?

It sounds to me like you have your throttle cable and shift cable swapped.

sounds like you got the shift linkage back together wrong, check and make sure you got the pin back in the hole on the rod not above it, all you have to do is manualy move the belcrank on the starboard side of the motor and look at the rod make sure it is in there right. (kind of tough to see down there isnt it?)
