Will polyester bond to PVC?

I found 2 different types of flooring that I would rather use besides plywood. One is made of PVC and the other is made of polyurethane. Does anyone know if regular polyester resin will bond to either one of these. I'm trying to avoid putting wood anywhere in this boat. WOOD IS BAD!!

Why do you want to glass over plastic?

Anyway, my hunch is no. But, I don't have any real basis for that opinion. If no one comes up with an answer based on real-life data I could work through the chemistry if needed.

polyurethane I doubt it would make a good floor surface....... If you want real strength and lightweight look into aluminum.

I am not sure PVC would work either.

The 3rd choice is straight fiberglass.

OR

get some 1/4" plywood and make your own fiberglass and epoxy panels from that. Completely encapsulate the wood inside the epoxy.

Some special types of polyester will bond pretty well to PVC, but not anything you will be able buy unless you need a full drum of it. If you use the normal methods and products, then pay close attention to detail, you should be able to get another 20 or 30 years out of it.

go with foam core then glass it if you dont want wood it floats and is real strong when bonded with glass ps very light too

Kevin, Polyurethane and PVC (unless thick) will not provide a strong enough floor. You therefore have a choice of many layers of FG cloth and mat, or some plywood. Plywood is the choice, IMHO. I recommend you use dried, pressure-treated plywood and seal all sides of it with Polyester resin. Screw it to the stringers with SS screws and glass it over with 2 layers of cloth.

I only need the bond to fair in the edges of the floor to the sidewalls. The PVC board is 5/8" thick and is stronger than plywood. Bob, how would I put an aluminum floor in a fiberglass boat? Whatever I use will be covered with carpet, so I'm not concerned with making it pretty. Just strong.......and waterproof.
