Hi,
My In-laws have a '95 FourWinns Freedom with a 3.0gs and Cobra Drive (Volvo SX from what I understand). The engine overheated on me yesterday. I checked the raw water impeller just now and all the fins are completely gone. I want to know if I need to be concerned about where the fins are now. I am going to go out shortly and take the thermostat housing off and plan to replace the tstat and look for debris.
Is there a back-flush procedure I shoud do? If so, can someone tell me how one would do that? I plan on picking up a new impeller and tstat tomorrow. I guess i'm looking for a little guidance here if anyone else has done this.
On a side note, I was suprised that there is no pump in the outdrive itself. When everything is working correctly, does the raw water pump run dry momentarily every time its started? That's a long hose from the outdrive to the pump to have to fill everytime it seems. Is that how it works or is there a check valve somewhere that keeps things primed between starts?
Thank You.
