Will the same controls work on a 1992, 90HP, 2 stroke

I just purchased a pontoon boat with a 1992 Mercury/Tracker, 90 HP, 2 stroke motor that needs a powerhead. I want to go to a 40 HP, 2002 Mercury/Tracker.

Will the controls already on the pontoon that work the 90 HP also work the 40 HP? or will I need a new control box? Both motors have elec start and tilt.

Should work fine. Double check that your main wire harness plug is the same. Should be.
