ck, i am not an expert so by no means take what i say as fact! with that, i don't believe those parts from a 50hp will work on the 85hp. i've read many times that the lower units are the same from 85hp thru 125hp w/ a few exceptions, i think 70hp and maybe one other. now, Frank A & Jerry Jerry are experts w/ this motor & can tell you for sure. hopefully i'm wrong & you can change out the parts but i kinda' doubt it. someone will chime in that knows...gd luck dave

I came up with the same conclusion after finding some parts diagrams and part numbers.

I don't need to replace the parts right now, so no biggy. But those gears and clutches are very hard to find. I figured I would buy them up for future use.
