70hp 76 rude long story short rebuilt carbs,plugs and fuel pump but it still bogs down when i run it, if i leave the choke on 1/4 of the way runs great all day..will this hurt my engine in anyway?? thanks erik

Having to run the choke at 1/4 choke level indicates a fuel delivery problem and that does need addressed. Sounds like there is some air leak somewhere. I'd find the problem and correct it if it were mine...

Partial choke also means LEAN with no choke. Lean says LEAN on OIL as well. Fix the problem or run the risk of ruining an otherwise perfectly good engine. Not to be critical but if an engine is not operating correctly something needs repair. In this case it is the fuel system. Just what did your carb and fuel pump rebuild consist of?

Did you have the high speed jets out of the float bowls when you cleaned the carbs ??

How old is the gas ? I had a motor that would only run on full choke. brought it to a friend who works on outboards for a living. he went through carbs said they looked fine. he said gas smelt old. sure enough dumped out old gas and put in new gas . ran like a champ. just a thought
