Unfortunately you may be in for a fight to get that off. After this remove the prop anually amd clean and grease the shaft as required.
speaking generically buy, borrow or make a prop puller try applying some pb blaster or similar penetrating oil.
A heat gun may help.Sometimes in the extreme the prop will come off the hub and then you will need to remove the hub.
If you want to wait for achris keep soaking it maybe he has some tools to help.

Yes can easily wait as boat goes good as is.
Would like to change prop before the rottnest swim event held @ 25=2=2012.

No problem. I've been an escort boat a couple of times. Once with a friends' 25' Bertram and once with mine. NEVER AGAIN!!!!

See you when I get home. Just remind me as I'll be doing plenty between now and then, and it's not unlikely I will have forgotten. My number (for an SMS) is 0409083345.

Cheers.....

Re: Will this prop work?

I was going to PM you about a Michigan 15.75x17P prop I have, but thought I should check how proud USPS was of their shipping services.... Friggin $100+ to Au :eek::eek::rolleyes::facepalm: I never knew shipping was sooo expensive going across the pacific...

If I get another new 16"/17P prop then it will be a Stailess Steel number

A stainless 16x17 prop won't perform the same as an aluminum 16x17 prop. The 16x17P aluminum prop looks like a good match to your boat since the engine is turning 4200RPM at WOT, but a 16x17P SS prop will drop WOT RPM about 400 RPM and probably hurt the boat's performance. achris's suggestion of a 17" SS prop with less diameter might work fine, though I think the smaller diameter will change the boat's handling a bit, unable to hold plane at low speeds. You might be up to 20-23mph on plane instead of 17-20. I used to run a large diameter 15.5x19P aluminum prop (common 19P diameter is around 14.25") and it would hold plane really well,,, though it was a terrible match to my boat.

Another though on prop selection is to go with a 4 blade prop, 15x16P or 14.5x18P, Alpha4, Mighigan Vortex, Solas whatever. They suggest dropping 1" of pitch when going to a 4 blade prop, though I'm not sure how that would work out since you are running a large diameter prop and the engine is nipping at it's recommended WOT RPM. I went from turning 4200-4300RPM with the 15.5x19P 3 blade prop to 4500-4600 RPM with a 14.5x18P 4 blade, the holeshot is MUCH better and I even picked up a couple MPH top end. (WOT RPM on my engine is 4200-4600.)

Honestly, since the 16x17P aluminum works so well on your rig, I'd just try and find another one of those. Or, as achris suggested, find a shop that will let you test drive props until you find one that works well with your boat.

I have a 14.5x17, a 14x19 (both 3 blade SS 'Vengeance'), a 14.5x18 4 blade ali ('Alpha 4') and a 14.5x19 3 blade ali (bog standard). We can try all those on the day....

Looking forward to it!
To Fishrdan; thank you for your input and considerations.
UPS and Fedex are rip of mechants, your US postal is much more realistic.

Re: Will this prop work?

That's a nice offer from achris as it will certainly will help figure out what direction to head and maybe you'll find a good match for your boat. I tired a 14.25x19 after being dissatisfied with the 15.5x19 and didn't like how the boat reacted to it, the 14.5x18 4 blade was a shot in the dark and worked out perfect. I lucked out I think...

glas, Yeah, I was shocked at the shipping prices, UPS was around $200, while USPS was only a mere $100, Las Vegas to Sydney. Crazy shipping for sure.

Re: Will this prop work?

There is also the Mirage range. They are large diameter SS props that gives great bow-lift (too much for my boat). But you would need to probably drop to a 15" pitch with one of those....
The Mirage 17" pitch prop has a diameter of 15.5", and the 15" pitch has a diameter of 15.75"

I am going to go to a Mercury dealer here and have a chat to see what is available, as close as this, to replace.
Ask your dealer about the Mercury demo program. They let you borrow the props to demo them on your boat. That way you don't buy the wrong prop and waste your money. If that dealer won't do it, call Mercury and they will help arrange the demo for you.
