1990 Ski Brendella with a 351w. I need the rubber wet exhaust hose that goes from the manifold to the pipe running out the back. The are about 14" long. Wet exhaust hose is pretty expensive! I found a 3" radiator hose for big rigs that has a temp rating of 260 degrees. Would that hold up or am I gonna have to go the more expensive route with wet exhaust hose? Im broke so Im just trying to get by as cheap as possible :p

Howdy,

This is what you're talking about?

The 3" stuff is only about $25/ft at West Marine.

That's probably a LOT less than a tank of gasoline for your boat.

A pretty good deal to prevent a fire.

I would suggest using the right stuff here.

No suggestion required here. USE THE RIGHT HOSE! The wet exhaust hose is a lot thicker, and tougher than Radiator hose, and it's got a piese of spring steel wire spirraling thru it. It wont swell, split, burst, or burn if you happen to lose an impeller until it reaches over 500 degrees. But it will smoke like crazy.:)
If you lose that piece of hose on the water, you have a 3 to 4 inch hole in your boat thru which the lake or sea will enter.
Not to mention the fact that YOU ARE REQUIRED BY LAW TO USE THAT HOSE.

...or go to a recyclers and pick up some 3" SS tubing. It'll out last any hose.

You can always get some 3" water pipe, too.

How would you intend to join the SS tube to the riser and the exhaust down tube? There is a reason for the materials used for this particular joint.

If you use a rigid tubing you will still need short couplers of rubber. The other problem is the needed flex. The original hoses ( Yes use Marine Grade) also take up some of the engine torque flex. If you went rigid you would eventually stress and crack the fiberglass muffler flanges. And if you think $25/foot hose is expensive, the mufflers are around $600 each. And you have to remove the whole rear floor to replace or patch them.
