Will this Y-pipe fit?

I need a new y-pipe for my 1994 Bayliner which has a mercruiser 350 with an AlphaOne outdrive. Per the suggestions of the many knowledgable folks on this forum, I have located a few for sale on e-bay. The cheapest one is here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2459629386

I emailed the seller, and he told me that he believes this will work for my application. Can any of you folks give me a second opinion as to whether or not this will fit?

Re: Will this Y-pipe fit?

Thanks guys. Outboardguy, if you could get me a replacement Mercruiser part # I would very much appreciate it. There are a couple others on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2459529059

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2459524808

From reading the above item descriptions, one would think that the second auction contains the correct pipe for my application. However, when I emailed this seller, he told me that the part I needed was the one in the first auction. Does that make sense? Are the "newer" pipes (like the one in the first auction) just the same as the older pipes but with newer-style flappers?

Hey atropine I was just curious if you could get me the serial # from your engine. I was also curious as to what atropine was but then I checked your profile and saw that you are an anasteaseologist(correct spelling?) so I guess it is some sort of numbing chemical. :D

Re: Will this Y-pipe fit?

Actually I just ran across this really cool site that may just answer all of your questions.Look at this picture

http://www.mercruiserparts.biz/partsimages/CRUISER/816596/36.gif

This should be the picture of your pipe, now this is the parts list, see parts #6 and #7

http://www.mercruiserparts.biz/mercindex/GetDiagram.asp?FunctionGroupID=5172

Notice that the part #'s for the exhaust pipe and the shutters have been superceded so if you find a pipe with the old # it should be okay. Now the next year up picture and parts list seems to have all the current part#'s.Look for the difference in the exhaust shutters.
http://www.mercruiserparts.biz/partsimages/CRUISER/816596.96/27.gif

http://www.mercruiserparts.biz/mercindex/GetDiagram.asp?FunctionGroupID=14942

So it seems to me that your year or shortly thereafter was when they changed to the new style flappers. Any way I hope this info helps you in your search for parts and if I were you I'd bookmark that site it seems like a good one to look up your own parts.Good luck and let us know how it turns out :) :D :) :D ;)

Re: Will this Y-pipe fit?

Thanks for the links there. I haven't logged in to that site to become a member, so I didn't get to see all the info yet, but I will soon. I assume that "supercedes to ******" means that the new "supercede" # is an improved replacement part. So I would then assume that I could either buy the old 44266T1 original y-pipe, or the new "superceded" 807130A4 y-pipe. I can get you the serial # off my engine, but it may not help because it is not the original chevy 305 engine. The previous owner supposedly didn't drain the H2O one winter (he lived in Arkansas where it dips below the freezing mark) and cracked the original block. So they replaced it with a 350 (whole new block, so different serial #).

As for Atropine, I just like the sound of it. Plus it's a pretty neat medication; in simplest terms, it kick starts the heart. In my field we use it quite a bit, along with a whole bag of other goodies.

Thanks again for the help.
Sam

Re: Will this Y-pipe fit?

Atropine. Yes you could find a part with either the old number or the new one, and it should work.I am not saying you have to buy parts from these guys but, you should use their website fully to your advantage. It seems like an excellent source. I think after looking around that a whole lot of engines use that pipe but the only difference that I know of is between alpha and bravo drives.Alpha's have two approximate 1/4 holes at the end of the pipe for the flappers to attach to whereas the bravo's have two 3/8 squares at the end of the pipe.So if you are buying off of ebay it may be hard to tell which you are getting. In any case I would just wait till the pipe shows up and then order flappers according to the holes in the end of the pipe. Thanks for the description of atropine I guess I was a little off but that is whats good about life you get to learn something new every day.I'm glad I could be of assistance and let me know if you need anything else.
