Well I have replaced the Riser, water pump, thermostat, thermostat housing flused the block and cleaned out the manifold. Now I went to check the timimg and it was about 14* BTDC Wow! (yes I used the right procedure) Would this have caused my overheating problem under load? I backed it off to 1*-2* BTDC and than removed the jumpers and it jumped up to 14* at idle. Good right?

Just checking of the 14* bast timing would cause overheating or would it have to be too much retard.

1995 3.0LX

Yes, to a point.
Tight valve lash also contribute to heat.
Enough to cause trouble? It is possible.
how probable? Usually not enough to be dangerous.
But it will be noticable.

Well a few degrees to much and you melting holes in pistons SO i would say YES

Have you changed the fuel filter in the carb ? i have found out the hard way it will lean out the motor enough to make a LOT of heat

tommays

Retarded timing makes an engine run hotter.
