Cannot get my 1999 deck boat on the trailer so the bow comes over the roller on the winch post. It always want s to come in below and we have to back it off and physically raise the boat...PIA. What the fix?

Re: Winch post

Same problem here... I back the trailer until only the first 4 inches of the set of bunks that is closer to the towing vehicle are above the water. Then i drive the boat in till it gets held by the bunks. Then winch it up a bit, while wife slowly backs the truck, then i keep winching as far up as i can get her up on the trailer... Typically i never get her all the way to the bow stop but about 3 or 4 in from it. Mine is a 26ft 5000lb deck boat, so there is some heavy winching here... Interested in seeing what other advises you get on this thread... Good luck

Try not backing in so far or don't winch it all the way up until you pull out of the water.

Bunks? Replace fromt bunks with rollers and don't back in so far.

Re: Winch post

I'm guessing a steep ramp and backed in too far so the front of the boat is not hitting the bunks and being pushed up.

Without pics it is hard to tell.

When the boat is on the trailer and out of the water, is it resting on the bunks or is it being supported by the bow post?

Re: Winch post

Same problem here with my deck boat. I'm planning to add small "target" bunks in between my main bunks and front roller to aid in lifting the bow up when putting it on the trailer. I've tried to back in less, which helps, but it takes a lot of heavy winching to make it move on the bunks. I need to re-carpet my bunks and I'm hoping that helps it slide a little better. I've tried spraying with silicon, but haven't really noticed much of a difference. In calm weather I just back it in deep to avoid the bow problem, but then it hard to line up the stern since the rear guide pads are submerged.
