Hey all, im looking to get a new winch to replace an old malfunctioning electonic but i need a few pointers.

i have a 17.5 foot Mark Twain, she weighs around 3000 I believe.

Can anyone recommend a brand and a place to get one? Im looking for a manual winch not electronic as my boat is docked during the season.

Anyone have anything they dont need anymore and would liek to sell?

Are the mounting plates for winches universal generally ?

Does anyone see me having a problem installing this myself?

Thanks in advance!

Fulton model # T1500 should be sufficient- that's a 1500 lb winch and will handle your boat just fine. The mounting holes should match up- I've not had to change anything when replacing a winch on a trailer. If you want bigger, go to the T2000 but you'll increase your cost and it is overkill.
Just make sure you get a galvanized model so you don't get rust stains and depending on your likes, you can even get painted models that match the trailer.

i have a shelby model 5470. cap. 2800#

i would recommend this winch. i took it off my inherited boat's trailer. it had a broken part on it too so i called shelby up and they sent me a new part free of charge that fixed it... that's some real service since the winch is quite old. maybe 25 years old...

besides that reason for likeing it. it is 2 speed w/ free wheel in neu. i can't tell ya how much i like free wheel in neu. the handle don't spin around and whap ya on the back of the hand while reeling it out. it also has a break on it which i use every time i launch. give my boat a push off the trailer and use the brake on the winch to stop it from reeling out further... i've not had the need to use low gear but it's there should i need it... i use high speed to reel it in and it's quick and to the point..
