Re: Windows ID For MSN Hotmail

I have Hotmail in "Favorites."Before this Windows ID came around I would click on Hotmail to get to Sign In page---enter e-mail address and password and be on my way.Now the Windows ID page comes up and says the e-mail address IS your Windows ID.But when I enter address and password the sign-in page comes back stating the address and\or password are incorrect.Re-entering them brings back the empty sign-in page.
What I want to do is get back to the old way if I can.

I don't use Hotmail so I had to dig a little to see what you were talking about. I went to hotmail.com and I see what it's asking for. Per the example, it does look like you can still use your hotmail address as the username (example555@hotmail.com). If you're absolutely sure you're using the right username, you should click the "forgot your password" link to get your password reset.

Microsoft has other support options too. I know it can be frustrating.

Use this program from Windows. >>> Windows Defender by Microsoft. It works on either Windows XP or Vista.

Also, you can try a program called 'Tweak UI' also from Microsoft. It's very easy to use, and you can choose what programs you want to run, and which ones you don't. You want to download the 'Tweak UI' program from here >>>Powertoys for Windows.

Both of these programs are from Microsoft, and are easy and safe to use.

If you want some secondary applications to help clean your PC, and get rid of all the junk. Let me know, and I will post the links.

He's having problems authenticating with Hotmail since Microsoft started their Windows ID carp, not spyware.

Bart?

Yes i386 that is the problem.I tried a system restore to way way back and that didn't take it off.Apparently the OTHER person that uses this computer saw the prompt that said Windows Automatic Update was disabled went and enabled it.I always screen that stuff so I don't wind up with all the useless carp.

Thanks for the help guys.

Well it looks like I will have to deal with those pesky tracking cookies to have E-mail access on this computer.
According to Microsoft if you are using a Cookie Blocker the Windows ID will not allow Sign-in.
I had set up for prompting to screen the cookies that I did not want and that is what kept the Windows ID from functioning.
MAJOR BUMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the help.

Cookies aren't all bad. A cookie is just a little piece of data that some web sites send to your browser in the background. Your browser sends this data back to the web site every time you return until the cookie expires. Think of it as filling out a form and hitting submit except automatically. This is one way for web programmers to design sites that will remember who you are, your site preferences, etc... For example, a site that has multiple themes available for users. Your cookie may contain info that tells the site to use your preferred theme. Web site programmers can also use cookies for other unsavory purposes.

It's good to be cautious but don't be over paranoid about cookies. Most sites owned by reputable companies are not abusing the feature.

Here's an example of a cookie from iboats that's on my computer:

Cookie Name: bbuserid
Cookie Value: 48660
Expires: Sunday, April 6th, 2008, 11:58:54 AM

My browser sends this cookie back to iboats every time I visit the site. It's my user id and the date upon which it expired. No big deal in this case.

By the way, if you find Hotmail to be annoying, give gmail a try. I love it.
