Is there anyone else but me who is still using ME? Or anyone familiar with the program. I am experiencing some really interesting circumstances.

Re: WINDOWS ME

Last time I did a version check, you were the only one using ME. All alone, by yourself.

Me and I the most misused words in the English Language. Are you capable of imparting any words of wisdom or experience about the operating system.

Don't know if you are the only one but get rid of it. Upgrade to XP. I have XP home working on my sons 400 MHZ AMD K-111 with 512 MHZ mem. and it works fine. <br /> Never used Me(lucky) but heard it was not very good.

Re: WINDOWS ME

HA! Boy does Windows ME bring back memories...all 1.5 hours of it. That's how long I had it installed before reformatting and going back to Win 98SE.<br /><br />Read this first to get the 'lay of the land' so to speak. Learn the version numbers and what it means to you....... Versions<br /><br />I guess it all depends on your hardware, where you go from here.<br /><br />FYI: WinXP Requirements..... WinXP Requirements...<br /><br />FYI: Win2K Requirements.... Win2K Requirements...<br /><br />Last but not least....Important info about Support from Microsoft.... Support for older versions of Windows.... <br /><br />Personally , I run Win2K. I find that even tho XP is popular, it's too dumbed down for my taste. I don't need or want the OS to 'ASSUME' anything for me, I can make my own 'adjustments', but that's just MY personal opinion.

Re: WINDOWS ME

Thanks for the comments fellas. I have been so busy trying to keep it on line and covering my butt on dockside I haven't been back to this page since I posted. Ya'll come on back heah. Incidently, it is an Emachine that was donated. 633 MHZ celeron Processor. I upgraded the RAM to max. It also came loaded with Star word Processor. There is a star search in the tool bar and some times what I type in the reply window of Iboats shows up in the search bar.....

Well, the emachines were pretty flakey in their own right so it's hard to tell if it's all the ME.

I have the same machine. I, also, maxed out my RAM. <br />I'm not sure about the search bar and I am at work now, but I will check it out when I get home. I've never had that happen to me.<br />B.C.

Spot on, 'me I would love to have some latitude to make those decicions but everytime I do I run into some propiertary issue or version conflict. The more they try to simplify the day to day operation the more complex the diagnostic problems become. There are so many lines of code to correct and patch conflicts and corrupt data all the processing speed is used up just displaying the base data. Sorta like trying to keep all the different personalities and political persuasions away from each others throat. :) ;)Oh well. I think the main problem for me is the dial-up link I am on. Some times I think I am routed through New Dehli. :D

Re: WINDOWS ME

Techno. My system is slightly newer then yours running at 860 Meg. I ran ME for almost 5 years until about 2 months ago I upgraded to XP. I had the same issues you mentioned. A couple of times I would reload ME (which sucks because it goes back to like Internet Exporer 4.0 and everything else has to be upgraded) but it cleared up the problems for at least a year.<br /><br />You can try downloading System Mechanic 6.0 and do the 30 day trial on that. It will probably find and fix about 500 registry errors. With ME just dragging a file to the trash can causes a registry issue and because of it I bought PC Tools registry mechanic. The XP runs a lot better. If you can put XP on your machine I bet it will run much better.

Actually, mine is a 566mhz. <br />I tried to see if there was anything that could help, but to no avail.<br />I'm getting a new computer, in the new year too. I think I will go to XP.<br />Sorry I could not help you Techno.<br />B.C.

Re: WINDOWS ME

Techno, if you do decide to go to XP don't upgrade ME to XP, do a fresh install of XP. The upgrade from ME to XP isn't very good and is buggy as hell.

Re: WINDOWS ME

I went from 98 to xp, took a little getting used to but if a old f--t like me can do it anyone can. I like xp but I guess i like things simple. and a lot of time It needs to make my decisions for me. But I did manage to get the right sized picture on my last post :D

Y, thank you nosferatu. No, upgrades have there own set of troubles. Fix one problem, have five more. This whole set up with software was donated and it has been a learning experience. As another guy mentioned, the restore function is pretty certain, but then you have to bring everything else up to speed. Certainly can't beat the price, though. :D ;)
