Windshield shattered

Please help! I went out to the garage today to find the side window on my 1997 Four Winns completely shattered. I have no clue how it happened. I am guessing that a rock flew up and hit it while trailering it home this past weekend.

Luckily, it wasn't the curved windshield part that shattered. It's the long sweeping side window that broke. Is it possible to replace this myself? It's just a flat piece of tempered glass, I think. Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks!

Re: Windshield shattered

I replaced a couple of glass panels on my old 1988 FW 200. I was lucky to be able to find replacements for a boat that old. Contact the dealer and see if they carry them, if not e-mail FW and they can tell you who made the OE glass and you can actually buy it from the glass company. That's what I did. The company that made the glass for my boat was Water Bonnet Windshields in Florida.

Re: Windshield shattered

Lou C, thanks for the info. I called my local Four Winns dealer today and they said they can order the glass from Four Winns for me. It's $183 just for the glass.

Is it easy to replace the glass panels yourself? Do you just remove the silver frame across the top of the windshield and slide in/out the glass? What about the rubber seals that go around the edges of the glass? Do those just push into place after you have the glass in ?

Thanks for your help!

If its just flat glass, bring the boat to a glass shop. They'll replace it - I doubt you will find the price excessive.

Re: Windshield shattered

youch. I did a stupid human trick and shattered my middle window that closes off bow. Took a shard to local glass show. They found a relatively matched color of safety glass (grey) and cut it to size. About $23. IT should be standard safety glass.

NOt sure but I would bet you can get any auto safety glass cut to the side shape...
