whew, man the winds just won't stop blowin here.

yesterday, noaa called for 30mph sustained winds, gusts of 40-50.....hum, i'd been out thurs. and fri. but knew the winds were gonna be high this weekend. i been wanting to see how the aristocraft did in larger lakes.....just had to go. does anyone else ever get that lonely feelin when yer on the lake, 'alone'. by yerself. puting full trust in yer equipment. in a large lake....:). i launched on the leeward side of the lake. was ok, but looked a shade hairy for return. blowin away from the dock. launched anyways. leeward side was no fun at all. but the other side was pretty good. 2'ers. maybe 3' sometimes, and a rouge 4'er. i was alone on my local 2000 sq. acre lake with the excpetion of one windsurfer. who inceidently was out for an easy 4 hrs windsurfing the whole time. bet his gf. likes him....what stamina. and he was haulin a** all of the time too.

i thought to myself a few times, i'm glad i did this. it was exciteing. the sun was out and felt good. the wind was so high the wind goin by my hardtop made a low humming growl. in the big surf it just bobed around w/o issue. had to go slow into the surf, bow high, but could plane in all the the biggest of surf goin with the wind. all in all i was a happy camper.

did cop sum luck on the way in. in the end. roundabouts 4 boats were on the lake at the end of the day. met up with one cat on the way in. off loaded at the same time. has himself a pretty darn crusty lookin seasprite w/ a omc stringer it looks like. hum, him and his wife were out in the surf too. his can't be more than a 16' trihull. mid 70's vintage. amazing. it's a rough lookin boat. guess looks don't say much for seaworthyness. one of the other 4 boats on the lake was a old omc trihull i seen around town. pretty nice one. funny. old boats only out in the surf? snicker, maybe we don't care if the sink? i do.....

so anyone else like to go out in the high surf for the fun of it....

guess i'm lookin for bigger surf. i never even got concered i was in trouble.....and yes, bein by myself, i did wear a pfd........

Re: windy weekend

You are welcome to try Lake Winnebago.

And if that isn't enough, Lake Michigan will soon be stirring up Green Bay.

Re: windy weekend

sorry fairlane, i don't fish......

lake winnibago looks pretty fun. i've not been onto the larger lake in ne. lewis and clark bein the best. man it gets to be some nice a** swells. think that's my next adventure. had an x gf's 19' or so bayliner on there once. felt like it was gonna break in half, leangth wise....slowing down helped though. the jet skiin was great though. been really wantin to get up there. 20 or so miles long, west to east. man get a west wind and yahoo. it's also 4 hrs away too, maybe 3.5, but a little further than a half hour to the local waterin hole. it's the best i can do.........:(

the great lakes? i do have some common sense. :D i read storys about some of the sh** that happens there. prepared or not. ya can die there......i have no illusions......dought i'd be pickin any 40-50 mph gust days on that in a 19'er...........flaired bow or not............

Re: windy weekend

I get 40-50 knot gusts where I live. I have a 700+ square foot shop (roughly 27ftX27ft) in my back yard with a 10 ft ceiling and it sways a little in the high wind. It's a little scary sometimes when I'm working inside the shop. I guess it wont blow down since it hasn't in many years.

Re: windy weekend

yeah ww2. high winds are a bummer. i got 2 silver maple trees in my yard. probably original trees from 1920, the era of my house. man they are soft and sway a whole lot. got me a cople of tears in my boat cover for tree limbs dropin. bummer. sure wish i had a garage, or any substantial cover....

I guess it wont blow down since it hasn't in many years.
guess that sums it up for me.......

figured that was another good reason to go boatin in high winds. didn't want my darn tree to drop limbs on my boat. better off at the lake.........:D

Re: windy weekend

we've had a Nor'easter blowing for 3 days, Saturday it put a 30footer on the rocks at the jetties, the captain said it felt like a hurricane hit him. from the pictures looks like one heck of a rough wave. the boat is sitting with the bow 15 feet up on the rocks.
