Hi. I just bought this project boat with a trailer and Johnson 50HP motor without papers. I managed to to find the boat's name plate with a serial number 701898. Does anyone know when it was made. The motor was made in 1971 which makes me think that the boat must have been from about the same time. Thanks. Dan

on the top of the transom on the right hand side there is a hull # and the last to digits are the year and suspect it to be no later than 89

Thank you for your response. No such number found in the area you've specified. Maybe someone removed it. Over the weekend I washed the entire boat and I'm pretty sure the hull number is nowhere to be found. Thanks.

hi m8 there should be a hull number on the transom on the left hand side as you look at the back off the boat just under the rubbing band :)

Re: Winner Wildcat - 1970???

Hello. I actually just picked up a 72 Wildcat myself, as a project. It has been my experience that the first 2 digits of the hull ID # are the year of manufacture. Since yours begins with a 70, I believe it to be made in 1970, and sold either in 70 or 71. The hull ID # should be located on the left(port) side of the transom, near the tie down ring and should be 6 numerical digits and it will have a 2 letter code right below it which I believe is the color code. On mine, the hull ID starts with a 72, and I know for a fact it is a 72 model, and the letter code is BL and my boat is blue.

Hope that helps and good luck with the project. How far will you take it? How are the floor, stringers, transom? Have you begun ripping stuff out yet? Hopefully you will show us plenty of progress pics. The winner forum is very slow moving one, but it is my understanding that these are very quality boats and handle very well out on the water. I have so far heard and read nothing but positives about winner boats, Wildcats in particular. I will say that the 50 horse hanging of the back will probably be under powering that boat. My USCG tag states these are rated for up to a 135 horse and 8 people on board. The 50 will move it, but I doubt it will get on plane.

I agree with emilime75 1970-1971 was a bad year for boat. Like the cycle we are in now!. The MIC # came out and confused everyone in 1972-3. I just picked up a freebie It is a 18' Winner quadra lift closed bow open. I have no idea what model it is. And there is not much information out there. It is is very good shape floors transom and hull. It is 84" with lounge seats and two rear seats outboat well between. They have it registered in NY as 20' 1971. Hull number is 704602 WH it has a quadra lift hull. found this link look on page 112

Hey Boat Rat. That's pretty nice for a freebie. Mine was close to free, I paid $225 for it with trailer and it has new floors and carpet and the transom is rock solid. Either way, I may be able to help with the ID on yours. It certainly looks like a Wildcat to me. The photos you uploaded are really small and hard to see. The Wildcats were setup either with in/outboards or outboard motors. The outboard models came in either 17 or 18 foot lengths, and the in/out models were 18 foot and longer. My particular model is a 1970 17 foot Wildcat with an outboard. I also have a 77 Merc 115HP tower of power. I have not mounted it on the boat yet, but I will be doing that over the winter for next season and believe it will get this boat up and going pretty well. Information on Winner's is very scarce, but after much internet searching I have gathered that these are very well built boats and they are very stable and handle well. It is an excellent hull design.

Re: Winner Wildcat - 1970???

The number molded into my transom on the port side is 704863-BL. I have owned my 1970 blue Winner Cobra 142 (14' 2") since new. So in my case the first two digits represent the year. Boat just finished its 40th year on the water. Between its 3 motors, it has 3800 hours.
