Re: Winner Wildcat - 1970???
Hello. I actually just picked up a 72 Wildcat myself, as a project. It has been my experience that the first 2 digits of the hull ID # are the year of manufacture. Since yours begins with a 70, I believe it to be made in 1970, and sold either in 70 or 71. The hull ID # should be located on the left(port) side of the transom, near the tie down ring and should be 6 numerical digits and it will have a 2 letter code right below it which I believe is the color code. On mine, the hull ID starts with a 72, and I know for a fact it is a 72 model, and the letter code is BL and my boat is blue.
Hope that helps and good luck with the project. How far will you take it? How are the floor, stringers, transom? Have you begun ripping stuff out yet? Hopefully you will show us plenty of progress pics. The winner forum is very slow moving one, but it is my understanding that these are very quality boats and handle very well out on the water. I have so far heard and read nothing but positives about winner boats, Wildcats in particular. I will say that the 50 horse hanging of the back will probably be under powering that boat. My USCG tag states these are rated for up to a 135 horse and 8 people on board. The 50 will move it, but I doubt it will get on plane.
