Moth balls work great for me. A small cloth bag of em under the snap on front cover of the cowl, and one in the propeller.

The only other good deterrent is a real active cat, but then you have the cat's maintainance and mess to deal with.

The problem with Moth balls is that if you use enough to actually repel the mice the stench will get into everything. I have found a better solution at www.northernexplorer.com. There is this pouch that they sell called "Store it Right" that repels mice better than Moth balls, but actually smells good. I have used this all winter and so far haven't had any issues with mice.
Also, if you end up getting in your boat and it wreaks of moth balls, they also sell a deodorizer that works wonders for getting rid of that foul stench.

There is one other method that involves neither cats nor moth balls. Any home improvement center sells electronic pest repelers that simply plug into an extension cord. Don't laugh folks, I've used these in my garage (actually the last three garages) and two sheds and have zero mouse problem. I have a buddy that uses them as well and he also has zero mouse problem. Obviously you need power available wherever the boat is.
