This is my first year having a boat. I have to winter storage options.

1. Pay 300 for the winter and have it placed in bulk storage.

or

2. Purchase a huge plastic/plether tent with sides and store in my yard. Obviously I like this option because it would be cheaper and would keep the boat at my place. I am just not sure if this will give my boat enough protection from the wind and elements. Clearly a shed or bard would be better.

Is option 2 even a consideration for me?

Fiberglass boat, outboard engine, columbus ohio

Thanks for your help!!

Jason

Re: Winter Storage

Jason, just being a little down the road from you, you would be ok by winterizing the engine and making sure there is no water in the livewells, and or transom.

Cover it up good with a boat cover, that you can order below, or a good tarp will work also.

Re: Winter Storage

I'm in Canton (probably worst weather) and this is my first boat here as well. I'm making a 'ridge pole' outta PVC that'll attach to the windows and have poles going to the deck. I'll run that down the middle of the boat with a line tied to bow and stern.

Then a tarp and the 'ridge pole' outta keep the snow and rain from accumulating.

Of course, the engine will be on a stand in my garage.. after properly fogging engine, draining carb..etc..

Brain:

Could I keep the engine outside as well or does that need to be kept inside somewhere?

Jason
