Winter tips for boats?

I use my boat off and on through the winter. I will take it out 2-3 times a month to go trolling for walleyes(saugeyes).<br /><br />Question--> What should I do since I am not going to completely store it for the winter? <br /><br />I keep it under a tarp, change the lower unit oil frequently, try not to let the gas stay in the tank for over a few weeks. what other tips are there.

You probably use your boat more frequently in the winter than most of us do all year.<br /><br />If you are not prone to freezing conditions, I would do nothing but use the boat.<br /><br />If you do have freezing temps, then make sure you drain the o/b. In other words, make sure it is tilted down for storage.<br /><br />I would not bother fogging when you use a boat 3 times a month(almost weekly).<br /><br />I would be concerned about getting all water out of you live wells and pumps if your rig is so equipped.<br /><br />tx.<br /><br />Joe

You don't need to do any additional lower unit lube changes. But make sure there is no water getting in the lower unit. Just loosen the drain screw and check a few drops after using the boat. Any water left in the gearcase could freeze and crack it in half.
