Ayuh,....

Your Question is more than just alittle Vague.....

When running across the lake,... There is No antifreeze,+ both the block,+ exhaust are lake water cooled...

As to which 1 gets antifreeze,+ When, when winterizing,...
That depends on How you're doing it....

Like Bond-o says it all comes from the lake or garden hose.If you leave ANY water in ANY part of that boat before you add anti-freeze you will probably have a cracked something next spring.
The o/d picks up water and pushes it thru the motor and out the manifold/riser.There are links on how to winterize on this site.
If in doubt ask someone or put a light in your bildge till your sure.Jerry

sorry guys, my dad says the block has anitfreeze in it permanatly and the exhaust manifold acts like a radiator. i thought the block and manifold all took in fresh water. is this incorrect? is the 140hp 1979 vintage a closed system except for the manifold?

You could also have a 140 with a closed cooling sytem on it that may or may not include the exhaust manifold.
Pictuers are worth a thoussnd words.
Do you have some pics of your engine you could share?

SN won't help in this case, too old. Could still be a 470 or a 140. BUT, since you say it is definatly a 140 that's good enough.
Your engine is somewhere between 76 and 79 somewhere near the middle I would guess.
Back then, Merc didn't have closed cooling on the 140. So you probably have an aftermarket system.
As I said before a picture is worth a thousand words, and trust me, boats don't have radiators. Heat exchangers (cooled with outside water) but no radiators.
