Re: Winterization - Onboard Fuel

Winter here in SC lasts about 2-3 months (Not swimming and tubing) But running around the lake. In my case if I have a full 55 gal tank do I even need stabilizer?

I am more worried about that little bit of fuel in my outboard going bad I am considering firing up the engine at least once per month during the winter to run that out of the injectors.
The gas left in the outboard is the reason I use Stabil every time I fill up. I have 2001 Merc 60 4-stroke. When I bought it, the dealer recommended using stabilizer all the time if I wasn't going to burn at least a tank full a month. Since all but one of the lakes I go to are no wake, I get up to 3 months out of the 19 gallon tank.

I have been using some type of stabilizer for years now when storing the boats - with never more than half a tank of fuel..as mentioned previously, I think it is much better to run out half a tank of older fuel, or a mix of 1/2 old and 1/2 new than to run out a full tank of 4-6 month old fuel....just my 2 cents...
