I have a mercrusier 4.3l Alpha one i/o. Took my boat in to get winterized to a local mechanic. Checked him out, talked with him, looked at shop and he is a certified mercury/mercruiser mechanic on website. He also says he been in business for 25+ years. So he did the works for me, oil, antifreeze, pull drive, inspect and grease joints and gimbals. When i got the boat home, I put the drive back down to take stress off bellows, and water (which had kind of a greasy feel to it when in my hands) ran out of the water intake inlets on the outdrive? I thought the drive and block were supposed to be water free so you dont get ice/cracking damage to boat/block? Called him up and said its normal to have a little water and anitfreeze run back??
I told him it was more water than antifreeze and he said its ok, I havent lost a boat in 25 years. Should I be worried? Is there something I can check to make sure block is full of antifreeze? Thanks

Re: Winterization Question

If you are really worried. At the bottom of the motor under the manifolds just above the oil pan is a drain plug(both sides)Remove it and antifreeze or a red liquid will come out.
A little water/antifreeze is ok a lot of water ain't.J

Re: Winterization Question

Many mechanics will back fill the engine with antifreeze after it is drained to prevent corrosion. My outdrive will usually drip after I get it back from winterization. Don has links posted for your service manual with pictures that outline this process including where the drain plugs are. Like it was suggested above, crack one of them open a little and check if you are worried.
