Have never drained this for winter. Outdrive down it's empty. Closed cooling system so where all do I drain fresh water out of. Arrows on the pic for location would be great. Thanks

Ayuh,...... What motor is it,..??
Does it have P/S,..??
There should be a drain in the H/E to drain the raw water side,.....
If it has P/S, there's probably raw water in the P/S cooler too,......

120 hp Mercruiser 1973. At the end of the heat exchanger closest to the stern there were two plugs. I removed the back one and fresh water came out. I’m assuming that drained the heat exchanger. So check to be sure about power steering and that should do it. Thanks in advance

Is the exhaust manifold on the closed cooling circuit? If not then it has to be drained, and even if it is, the elbow should be drained as these are always raw water cooled.
That and the raw water intake hose running from the transom mount to the heat exchanger.
You can disconnect the feed hose from the manifold and fill it with AF after draining
I also fill the raw water hose to the transom mount with AF after draining with the drive down, that also flushes out the PS Cooler, way easier than contorting myself to get at the drain on the P/S cooler.
More pix of your set up would help

looks like a half system (block and heads only)

if so, then the exhaust manifold gets drained along with the tube side of the heat exchanger.

I see what looks like a seperate feed for the elbow back there on the side and is there a hose that goes from the HE to the exhaust manifold? I think so….

hard to see in the shadows.

we see the raw water feed line from the transom shield to the front of the heat exchanger. we see the surge tank and the associated line to the shell side of the heat exchanger.

the rest would need a different angle pic and some light.

I think it’s a full system, small hose off thermostat housing feed the front of the manifold. This is AF going to manifold , vs hot raw water off the heat ex if it were a half system

Appreciate all the help on here. Have more pics and can explain what I’ve done. As mentioned lower unit down and it drained and it’s still down. Removed back plug on heat exchanger clear water ran out. Also plug at bottom of exhaust elbow nothing came out. Plug still off. Can see the blue corrosion at removed plug On heat exchanger. See first pic. Then removed a hose below exhaust elbow at rear and drained all my antifreeze. Wasn’t part of plan but I guess it gets new antifreeze. Assume I can do that in spring. See second pic. I don’t see any power steering setup. Rest of pics for the experts to see if I need to do more. Again thanks oh and what is a 1/2 and and or full cooling system and what is mine? I haven’t drained block but assume that’s full of antifreeze or was.
