Do I have to do more then remove the drain plug from the exhaust elbow to drain the water from the exhaust to outdrive on a 1976 Mercruser
165hp inline 6 for the winter? I have already run RV antifreeze through the engine block, exhaust manifold and the hose from the outdrive to the engine.

You had the motor running when you did this? Hopefully you drained everything first, then introduced the A/F
Or you poured in into the motor, manifold and hoses?
If it is a raw water cooled system, draining the manifold also drains the eblow/riser

First off let me thank you for your HELP
I have the boat in my backyard. I just pulled the plug under the exhaust manifold and the plug on the back port side of the block and also the one on the port side of the exhaust elbow. Water ran out of the lower manifold and the one on the side of the block. Just a little came out of the elbow. I then disconnected the hose from the out drive and dumped R/V antifreeze into it until I had pink fluid coming out from the water pick up. I then dumped it into the hose fitting on the front of the exhaust manifold until I had a good stream of A/F coming out of that drain, I then dumped A/F into the hose going into the engine from the exhaust manifold until I had a good stream of pink from the block drain. I was worried about having water in the exhaust from the manifold to the out drive as I do not know if that holds water when out of the water and the engine is not running. That last thing is to have something to freeze up. Thank you for your help .

removing the manifold drain also drains the elbow/riser. Sounds like you have everything drained and protected .

I didn't see you make mention of probing the holes... whenever you remove a plug and drain water, follow up with a piece of coat hanger or similar to knock any crud loose inside that may be holding water back.

I believe on that engine you also want to remove the lower hose from the water pump (front of engine) to drain the water pump
