I have been watching videos on how to winterize outboard motors and they all use muffs and then pour in marine antifreeze through them.
The problem with this engine is where the water intake is there is no room to put muffs on.
So I am asking the experts What do I do to winterize this motor????????

Thanks

Put stabilizer in the fuel. Run for at least 10 minutes, to disperse it.

While running, spray fogging oil into carb throat until it dies. remove plugs, and spray fogging oil into cylinders. Rotate flywheel, and replace plugs.

Drain old gear oil, and replace with new, installing new crush washers.

Mist powerhead with something like WD40 to prevent corrosion.

Keep motor vertical, its self draining. You do not need anti freeze, unless of course the drain holes are plugged.

All done!

Thanks Chris
Are there more than 1 drain hole?

Yes, there is at least 2 perhaps 3. They are tiny. Sometimes, guys don't like to see the old fuel/oil mix running out of them, so they plug them! Big mistake. Now, the water has no where to go, gets trapped in the gearcase, freezes, expands and cracks the case. You should see a grimy fuel/oil mix running out of these holes when you pull your boat out of the water, that is normal.

Thanks 82, I'll keep that in mind.
Here's the drain holes I found when I tipped the motor up and looked underneath.
None of them are plugged and I know i've seen water dripping from there on both sides.

Follow High Trims advise its spot on.The critical part is fresh clean gear oil .Maybe I'm sheltered but ive never heard of pouring antifreeze in an outboard and I live in a very cold part of Ontario.Actually find it kinda funny as the stuff would drain right away .YouTube can be dangerous as well as informative.Nobody here will knowingly give you wrong info and if they do by accident somebody will correct that right away.

So I did get the lower gear oil changed easy job. It was pretty black but no signs of water. I bought some fogging oil and gas treatment today and am waiting for the weekend to maybe finish it off.
It looks like our warm weekends are done for the year :blue: but I'm not going to finish winterizing the motor yet just in case we get a warm day.
