Re: winterizing an outboard
1) I always get about 10 boxes of moth balls, cut half of the lid off, and set them in every orifice of the boat. This keeps mice, squirrels, and other rascals from 'setting up shop' in my boat over the winter.
2) Don't forget to add fuel conditioner or stabilizer to your fuel tank.
3) Store the boat with a large block underneath the tongue jack of the boat so that it can be tilted at a higher angle than most other times. This keeps any water you might get under there running out the back of the boat instead of sitting in pools.
4) I get a couple of boxes of Silica Gel Dehumidifying packs. Whichever is the cheapest at the time, and keep them in the carpeted compartments of my boat. This isn't completely necessary, but I buy them any way for my gun cabinets, and get them cheap. These just make sure there isn't any mildew or mold that will form on the carpeted areas of the closed compartments over the winter months. You can find them cheap on the internet. Look for Hydrosorbent dehumidifiers, or silica gel dehumidifiers.
5) You can save your wheels and tires by placing your boat on jack stands, and removing the wheels to store in a warm place. You can do this if you decide not to store the boat at a tilted angle.
