Re: winterizing boat

thanks again all, especially Don. you all have been a huge help. i wrapped the foot in a blanket and put a brooder lamp with a 75w bulb in the closed hatch where the motor, bilge pump, etc. are all located. at dawn this morning (28 degrees) the compartment felt decent so i feel pretty good about things thus far. don, i'll take a few pics of the motor itself and send to you. you'll have to excuse my ignorance here but i believe the boat is fuel injected, so it can't be a "carbed" engine can it? or am i not understanding what you mean by carbed? i'll see if i can find the blue plugs in the diagram below also. tonight is the biggest concern as it is be ~18-20 degrees.

also, i need to get a good all around manual that will cover everything the boat owner's manual doesn't. can any one make recommendations there? i see where iboats (this site) sales a selco (sp?) manual, is that a good one? thanks in advance.

Could this work for successfully anti-freezing the engine?

Could this work for successfully anti-freezing the engine?

I was thinking, instead of the conventional drain plug pulling and draining of the engine, I would:
1. Place a large catch pan under the rear transom and outdrive (24 x 36")
2. Place muffs on the intakes and attach the hose to a portable sump pump
3. Put 2 gals of antifreeze into a bucket and drop in the sump pump
4. Start the sump pump and then the motor and let the antifreeze pass through blending with the fresh water already in the engine
5. Stop the engine and transfer the recovered water/antifreeze from the catch bin into the "antifreeze bucket"
6. Do step 4 again. Test the antifreeze with a cheap tested until good to -30 (or whatever). Add water or antifreeze using this system until complete.

While this sounds like a PITA (pain), I think it would not be too hard to do, be entirely outside the boat, and very effective.

Any experience on thoughts on this?

Thanks,
Chris
