Winterizing my 470

Time to start thinking about winterizing the old 470. I do a two step process: Check and drain. About now while you are still using the boat, grab yourself an antifreeze tester (about $4 to $10) and check your antifreeze. Should be about 50% which will protect to -34F (60% will protect to -60F). Adjust now while still running the boat, so you will not have to mess around later. When I pull the boat for the winter, I drain it right on the ramp, just pull the boat drain plug and the AFT plug on the heat exchanger, and let her drain. Make sure you get a good stream of water coming out. When you get it home, check the power steering cooler (if you have one) to make sure it drained (remove the hose if need be). Put stuff back together, little perfect seal or NAPA aviation sealant on the plug and you are done till spring (or use it all winter if you like). The one advantage of the poor ol 470 owners, we are out boating while guys with the "good" engines are slappin' on the JB weld, and wondering where the "milkshake" came from.;):D

....... just pull the ..... AFT plug on the heat exchanger, and let her drain.

.....and if you replace that drain plug with a long-handled pet **** future drainings will be a snap, especially if you winter fish for trout and/or stripers!!

And don't forget to empty the Porta-Potty!!! :):)
