I've got a newer, 2005, 2.0L 135hp Alhpa One IO. Now that the warranty has expired I wish to start doing my own winterizing. I think that I have everything in hand apart from the cooling system. This model has the single point drain system, two blue drain hoses. As far as I can make out from the manual all that is required in the winterizing process is to drop these hoses to drain the block and manifold. Yeah, this seems a bit too simple! Given that the temperature here routinely goes below 0F over winter are there any other steps I should be taking such as adding anti-freeze. The dealer seems to think that this is required but I think this is maybe just scare tactics. If antifreeze is required/recommended is there an easy way to get it in there. I really don't want to be messing around with buckets of antifreeze if at all possible.

Have you read the winterizing post that's a sticky at the top of this forum?

Although "air" dosent freeze, leaving it dry promotes scale and corrosion internally. - 100 non-tox if near a body of water or regular A/F if not(just remember to drain it first in the spring and save it for next time).
Flush,Fog, Drain the motor and manifold,.Remove the large hose from the therm housing and pour it in the hose till it comes out the top therm housing.pull the hose going to the manifold and fill the manifold untill it comes out the exaust.pull the drive and store in a warm place,

How about just feeding the A/F directly down the block and manifold drain hoses. What about the pump? Should I bump the engine over a couple times to clear it out?

Dirt, I recommend you read the winterizing post. Also, I recommend you do add antifreeze, rather than just empty the block and manny. If you pull the large hose off the engine mounted waterpump, and dump some A-F into it, it will push any residual water out your drain lines. When you see the A-F exit the drain hoses, close the drains and fill the block. Repeat for the manifold, using the manifold hose from the thermostat cover to fill it. Now dump some A-F down the raw water hose from the outdrive. You will see A-F exit the water intakes on the outdrive.

1998 Bayliner 175 3.0litre engine

I have used the winterizing post by Don S ,for 4 years now. Never have had a problem with my boat, getting it ready in the spring. I have never used antifreeze, but make sure all the water is out of the block ,manifolds etc. If you have the manual for the boat when you bought it new, it should have some good info as well.

Just completed winterization on mine, and followed the Don S, winterizing post, doing all the required stuff. Good luck Clipper 800

The biggest issue withe the single point drain is BEING sure scale and dirt do not clog it and water stays in the block

With the old plugs you allways had to probe the holes to be sure they drained

Tommays, Even after probing and cleaning the drains on my 4.3LX, I always had some residual water in the block and manifolds. Was this water sufficient to damage the block when it froze? I do not know, but thought it best to get it out of the block anyway, by filling the block and mannys with A-F.

I suppose you could use a compressor and blow out the cooling passages. That might work.

Don, I can't find the 'winterizing post' that you reference above.

I was gifted a 2001 Tracker PC 32' with a 3.0L Single Point drain system. I will be winterizing it myself and I would like to read your post first.

It is in the Adults Only section, the title of which may seem a bit odd!:D
