once I drain the block, I was thinking to be extra sure all the water is out to hook up the shop vac to the hose on the tstat housing and blow any remaining out. Is that a dumb idea?

May give me a little piece of mind all the water is OUT.

ok..have at it. lol

Re: winterizing question

Ayuh,... If you remove the Drain plugs,+ poke 'em out clean, so the water drains...
Gravity does the Whole job...
It takes a substantial amount of water to do Damage,.... Just alittle moisture Won't...

But if it gives you piece of mind I don't see where it would do any harm to do this (it may be a waste of time, but if it lets you sleep at night, go for it).

That is kinda the reason I fill the block with antifreeze after draining. I'm SURE that I got all the water out (air wont freeze in a block, but water will), but yet I still take the time (and money) to fill the block (again some may argue it's an unnecessary step, but I feel better about it).
